About Us
History of the Band
Manly Warringah Pipe Band is a very active and traditional Scottish Pipe Band with over 30 members. Based on the beautiful Northern Beaches of Sydney, Founded in 1949, Manly Warringah Pipe Band has been playing for 70 years. In this time, the band has gone from strength to strength, fuelled by the enjoyment of playing amongst a friendly, social group of people with a common passion. We proudly wear the Military Gordon, as worn by the Gordon Highlanders.
MWPB welcomes all new members to the band, from beginners to experienced players. Tuition is available for both the pipes and drums from experienced players, many of whom learnt within the band themselves.
The band is proud to have strong community connections, including with the Forestville RSL Sub-Branch, the Northern Beaches Council and the Warringah Scottish Association.
MWPB is open to all ages, with current learners and members ranging in age from 9 to over 70, and a wonderfully diverse mix of nationalities and careers.
The last dozen years have been particularly exciting as the band participated in the Massed Pipes and Drums at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo in Scotland in 2012, 2015, and 2018, in Sydney in 2010 and Melbourne in 2016, and at the Basel Tattoo in 2017 and 2022. Leading the band is Drum Major Chloe van de Velde and Pipe Major Nick Roelvink.
